Dr. Hunter received a B.A. in Anthropology from Vanderbilt University in 1987. He graduated from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences College of Medicine in 1992, and completed a General Surgery Internship in 1993. Dr. Hunter trained in Orthopedic Surgery at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tenn., graduating in 1997. He received an M.B.A. from the University of Tennessee in 2009.

Dr. Hunter is Board Certified by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and a member of the American Association for Hand Surgery. Dr. Hunter has performed medical missionary work in Zimbabwe and St. Lucia. He is licensed to practice Orthopedic Surgery in Tennessee and Wyoming.

Dr. Hunter was raised in Selmer, Tenn. He became associated with the Mid-Tennessee Bone and Joint Clinic in 2002. He lives in Columbia, and enjoys spending time with his family and outdoor pursuits. Dr. Hunter is involved in many community organizations.
